Directorate of Public Prosecution

The DPP shall exercise all powers reasonably necessary to fulfil the following functions of the Ministry—

  • Rendering legal advice to the National and State Governments and Institutions in all matters relating to criminal law and criminal procedures and any other relevant penal laws;
  • Supervising investigations, taking cognizance of and prosecuting criminal cases at the National and State levels in accordance with applicable law;
  • Preparing data and reporting on the rate of crime and submit such report to the Undersecretary;
  • Undertaking prosecution and appearing before the criminal courts of South Sudan on behalf of the National and the State governments; and;
  • Performing any other functions or duties that may be assigned to it, or which is reasonably related to the forgoing activities.
